Looking Deeper – Day 11: Take All The Time You Need
Being a W.O.N.D.E.R.F.U.L. Wife requires us to make bold moves. That means we have to do things that may be outside of our comfort zones for the sake of our husbands and our marital relationships. We are fortunate because the Bible provides many examples of wives that profoundly affected their marriages with their choices. Over the next few days, we will take a look at several of them.
Manoah’s wife is best known for being Samson’s mother, but I believe her wifely wisdom should also be her claim to fame.
I urge you to read Judges 13 for her story in its entirety, as my space here is limited, but I’d like to point out a few key points to notice as you read:
- We know that Manoah was a man of God because he knew how to prepare and present an offering to the Lord;
- The angel came to HER, but she always included her husband.
- She didn’t say “I already told you that,” when Manoah finally realized they were dealing with God.
- In the midst of her husband’s melt-down, she encouraged him with wise words.
I believe these are priceless tidbits for us to embrace. Most of us are married to men that have a relationship with God, but that does not mean that there won’t be instances when God speaks to us first.
In those times it is important for us to include them and allow them time to get on board without becoming impatient or frustrated with them.
It is also very important for us to choose our words wisely. We must know our God AND our husbands. Our knowledge of God and His ways can serve as a reminder that He is faithful to do what He says He will do, in-spite of our doubt, fear, or disobedience. Our knowledge of our husbands and their ways should be a barometer for our word choices and the inspiration to extend to them the same grace that God extends to us.
